The mechanism
Photobiomodulation, explained
Photobiomodulation describes the absorption of specific wavelengths of light by cellular chromophores. Absorption supports adenosine triphosphate production and modulates downstream signalling, contributing to tissue repair, remodelling and regeneration.
Read the science
Red light at 630 nanometres reaches the upper dermis, supporting fibroblast activity. Near-infrared at 830 nanometres penetrates to the lower dermis and adjacent tissues. Blue light at 415 nanometres is absorbed by porphyrins associated with Cutibacterium acnes. Green light at 525 nanometres targets pigment irregularities.
