BOOST YOUR BEAUTY SLEEP

BOOST YOUR BEAUTY SLEEP

Three-quarters of people in the UK sleep less than seven hours per night, while 12% snooze for less than five hours. So you’re eating clean, exercising, you’re having your Déesse LED mask treatments, but you still feel like you could have better skin. You may be missing the key ingredient for healthy, glowing skin – sleep.

Getting the proper amount of shut-eye is vital to cleansing your skin according to research – and even Gwyneth Paltrow vouches for it in her new book.

“I believe it should be your first priority – even before you think about your diet. “The lifestyle I lead is based not just on clean eating, but also on clean sleeping: at least seven or eight hours of good, quality sleep – and ideally even 10.” According to research, not getting enough (at least six) hours sleep per night can raise your levels of stress hormones in your body having an adverse effect on your skin.

“Lack of sleep can lead to signs of ageing,” explains Susan Harmsworth, skincare expert, and ESPA founder.

“Skin research shows cell regeneration is highest between 12am and 1am, while skin exfoliation and blood flow is increased between 12am and 4am. This is why night-time products are so beneficial for the skin’s repair systems.” The best advice for getting a proper night of sleep is getting into the habit of avoiding caffeine and wine before bed. Cut out the coffee and the vino and replace it with some chamomile and you could be on your way to perfect skin.
