The 4 week holiday skin prep guide

Prepare your facial and body skin like a PRO in readiness for your upcoming holiday.

Are you dreaming of flawless, sun-kissed skin for that upcoming beach holiday or simply seeking to elevate your skincare routine to new heights? Get set to glow on your holiday.

Skin preparing is a crucial step in any regimes with a timeframe or set end goal in mind. We know that in order to have flawless skin when wearing makeup, we must have an effective skin prep routine and a healthy, hydrated diet to achieve the soft, supple look we desire. Therefore we must follow the same type of regime for an upcoming holiday.

Preparation for you skin comes in two main segments. These include:

  • Beauty from within
  • Beauty from the outside

Beauty from within refers to diet – you may have heard the saying ‘you are what you eat’. Your skin will always reflect what is happening inside your body. It’s an incredibly important step which many will forget before your holiday, and when we have any skin issues.

Beauty from the outside refers to physical skincare and products – there is no quick fix to achieve glowing, flawless skin – its lots of determination, healthy diet and an effective skincare regime.

Face vs Body prep:

The skin on your face and body should be treated as completely separate entities due to their different characteristics and needs.

Skin on the face has a higher product absorption rate, has a thinner outer layer which is more prone to skin sensitivities such ash eczema, acne etc and it also tends to have more active sebaceous glands.

The skin on your body is generally thicker and less sensitive than facial skin. Body care products may contain richer ingredients to provide deep hydration and nourishment for the body's larger surface area.

Here is your 4 week guide to preparing your face and body before sun exposure:

4 weeks before:

  • Water: increase you water intake to ensure you are consuming 2 litres of water a day. An easy way to do this is with am hour-by-hour water bottle.
  • Diet: increase your vegetable intake, ensuring you are consuming your 5 a day. Look for foods that are rich in Vitamin C, Vitamins A and Vitamin E.

Skincare:

  • Keep skin hydrated: start with a weekly exfoliation and a weekly hydrating face mask.
  • Introduce your Déesse PRO on Mode 1 or Mode 6, twice a week for skin cell rejuvenation.
  • Avoid: picking at your skin. If you start to pick spots at this stage, the sun exposure can cause the healing tissue to increase pigmentation.
  • Boost skin results with an advance facial such as the iS Clinical Fire & ice Facial, Microdermabrasion or SkinPen. At the 4 week mark you will see incredible results. Use Mode 4 to aid skin recovery.

Bodycare:

  • Start to exfoliate your body once a week to create smooth and soft skin. After exfoliating, ensure you are re-hydrating your skin with a rich body moisturiser.
  • Avoid: waxing or shaving and self-tanning. To achieve the best skin prep possible, you want to allow your skin to start anew.
  • Start: using more targeted products to tackle any skin concerns.

3 weeks before:

Water: keep drinking 2 litres of water a day. You can start to incorporate a collagen supplement. We would recommend Totally Derma for the most effective results. Collagen supplements repair the skin and stimulate cell renewal.

Diet: avoid foods with high saturated fat and high salt such as butter, cheese and high fatty meats. These types of food can contribute to skin flare ups, and digestion issues.

Avoid high fat and salt takeaways, but do opt for Mediterranean style foods.

Skincare:

  • Maintain your weekly exfoliation and hydrating face mask. Start to slowly incorporate a radiance boosting serum.

Its important to always introduce new facial products slowly and over the course of a few days. This will allow your skin to adapt to the new products without causing a reaction.

Increase your treatment time of the Déesse PRO to up to 20 minutes per treatment, 3 times a week. We recommend using the mode most targeted to your skin concerns; Mode 1 for lines & wrinkles, Mode 2 for acne and spots, Mode 3 for brightening, Mode 4 for healing, Mode 5 for skin sensitivity and Mode 6 for a express treatment of red light therapy.

Bodycare:

  • Keep progressing with the weekly body exfoliation. Apply a lurious, thick body cream once ever 2 days.

2 weeks before:

Water: keep progressing with 2 litres of water a day with a supplement.

Diet: Eat leafy greens and vegetables which are rich in antioxidants. These include spinach, broccoli, kale, bell peppers and tomatoes. Antioxidant help to prevent damage caused by free radicals in the atmosphere, these free radicals can include pollution, UV rays, smoke and radiation.

Skincare:

  • Start to incorporate a chemical exfoliator. AHA or glycolic acid works best to remove dead skin cells and brighten the skin. (always patch test before use).
  • Maintain using tour Deesse PRO as per the previous instruction.

Bodycare:

  • Keep progressing with the weekly body exfoliation. Apply a luxurious, thick body cream once ever 2 days.

1 week before:

Water: keep progressing with 2 litres of water a day with a supplement.

Diet: Maintain healthy eating and ensuring you are taking in Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin B within your diet.

Avoid alcohol until you are on holiday – this is a crucial time for any spots or blemishes to start appearing.

Skincare:

  • Maintain your skincare regime, ensuring you are properly hydrating and protecting your skin.
  • Avoid continuous touch of your face. Bacteria from your hands can easily transfer onto your face and contribute towards spots.
  • Do not use any new products at the stage.
  • If any irritating occurs, use your Déesse PRO on Mode 5 to calm down any irritation.

Bodycare:

  • Increase your body exfoliation to every other day until you go on holiday.
  • Book in waxing/ shaving and tanning at least 1-2 days before you take off.
